Sharjah: The dangers of stray animals on public roads and highways have been discussed between the Central Region Police Department and the municipalities of the Central Region. The meeting aimed to develop the plans necessary to prevent stray animals from crossing the road and ensure the safety and security of road users.
The meeting took place shortly after an Emirati man had a fatal accident when his vehicle hit a camel that was on the Al Madam Road. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The meeting discussed statistics about traffic accidents and the types of collisions with different animals.
Injuries sustained in traffic accidents involving strays were also reviewed, with plans being drawn up to prevent such accidents. There were discussions regarding security coverage in areas of the city through police and municipality patrols as well. The risks, challenges, and recommendations were reviewed alongside numerous short-term plans to reduce such accidents and promote active cooperation with the relevant authorities.
The meeting was chaired by Colonel Hamid Saeed Al Jallaf Al Shuwaihi, Director of the Central Region Police Department, Colonel Khalifa Musabah Al Khasouni, Head of Al Dhaid Comprehensive Police Station, and Colonel Salem Masoud Al Tunaiji, Head of the Licensing and Machinery Department, in the presence of Matar Ali bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, President of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, and Saeed Maadhad bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Head of the Security and Control Department in the Municipality of Al Madam, and several representatives of the municipalities of the Central Region.
In the meantime, animal owners and members of the public have been instructed to not leave any animals without a shepherd in wild areas, with grazing being prohibited near residential neighbourhoods and main roads within a distance of less than half a kilometre.
