Abu Dhabi: Starting next month, pet parents in Abu Dhabi will need to register their pet dogs and cats under a new pet animal ownership service. The new service is set to launch on February 3, said the authorities on Tuesday, 14 January.
According to the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), pet parents will have a one-year grace period where they can complete the registration process without any penalization. But, for establishments that own pet dogs and cats, the registration process must be completed within six months.
The registration process is free until further notice, said the DMT. From February 3, pet owners can visit a veterinary facility or clinic to register their cats and dogs once the new pet ownership & registration service is available on the TAMM portal.
The DMT is looking to create a centralized database for pet owners and their microchipped pets. Along with the creation of such a database, the DMT has also outlined a few other goals of the registration process, which include reducing stray animal population, tracking pet records, enabling proper identification, and improving animal welfare.
Alongside these goals, the program also looks to highlight other important aspects of pet ownership, like annual vaccinations, microchipping, and regular veterinary check-ups.
