Akasa Air has announced significant updates to its pet travel service, ‘Pets on Akasa,’ aimed at offering greater convenience and flexibility to passengers travelling with their pets. The updates are expected to strengthen the airline’s position as one of the most pet-friendly carriers in India.
Under the revised policy, passengers can now travel with two pets in the cabin, compared to the earlier limit of one. The maximum permissible weight for pets in the cabin has also been increased to 10 kilograms, including the carrier. These changes enable families and individuals with more than one pet, or slightly larger pets, to travel more comfortably.
The airline has further extended the validity period for mandatory health certificates, allowing additional preparation time for pet parents before departure. In addition, the service has been expanded across 24 domestic destinations, covering key hubs such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
To improve the overall experience, Akasa Air has introduced additional passenger benefits for those travelling with pets. These include the option to pre-book window seats, priority check-in, and expedited baggage delivery upon arrival. Together, these initiatives are designed to minimise stress and ensure a smoother journey for both pets and their owners.
Akasa Air has emphasised its commitment to pet safety and welfare as a central element of the service. The airline has invested in specialised training for its airport staff, in-flight crew, and customer support teams, ensuring that every stage of the journey maintains high standards of care for animals.
Since its launch in November 2022, the ‘Pets on Akasa’ programme has transported over 8,500 pets across India, highlighting the growing demand for reliable pet travel options. By expanding the service and increasing its flexibility, Akasa Air aims to meet this demand while setting benchmarks for the sector.
The airline noted that these measures reflect its broader vision of building an inclusive travel ecosystem. By adapting policies to meet the needs of modern travellers, Akasa Air continues to focus on customer-centric innovation and service expansion.
