Air France Pet Policy

Air France does everything to ensure your pet's journey goes as smoothly as yours. From transport rules and prohibited animals to rates and timings, here’s all the information you need to prepare for your trip.

Traveling with Dogs, Cats, and Other Pets

Air France helps make sure your pets are comfortable and safe on board. Depending on your chosen mode of pet travel (in the cabin, hold, or by cargo), here are the guidelines:

Travel Requirements for Pets

  • Your animal must have received all required vaccines to be permitted on board.
  • Any dog or cat traveling within the European Union must be identified with an electronic microchip. Your pet must also have a European passport.
  • Provided and completed by an authorized veterinarian, this passport identifies your animal and certifies that it has been vaccinated.
  • We recommend that you reach out to the embassy of your destination country. For example, Ireland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Malta have additional health requirements.
  • For your travels outside of the European Union, please inquire about the current regulations for each country of origin, destination, and any country you will be connecting through (vaccinations, quarantine, etc.).

In the Cabin (Pet cats and dogs weighing up to 8 kg / 17.64 lbs including the carrier)

Permitted animals:

You can travel with a dog or cat weighing up to 8 kg / 17.64 lbs (including the carrier) if you have received prior authorization from customer service. Your pet must be at least 15 weeks old and be up-to-date on their vaccines.

Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old for flights within Metropolitan France (including Corsica) and between Metropolitan France and Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Réunion Island.

Traveling with snub-nosed animals in the cabin:

Snub-nosed animals such as Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers, Pekingese, or Shih Tzu dogs, as well as Persian cats, can experience breathing difficulties. We recommend asking your veterinarian for advice before planning air travel for your pet.

In the Hold (Pet cats and dogs weighing less than 75 kg / 165.3 lbs including the carrier)

Permitted animals:

Cats and dogs weighing between 8 kg / 17.64 lbs and 75 kg / 165.35 lbs must travel in the hold. Please note that cats and dogs weighing less than 8 kg / 17.64 lbs can also travel in the hold. Each passenger may travel with a maximum of 3 animals in the hold. This number may be limited depending on the type of plane. We also recommend that you notify us that you are traveling with an animal in the hold as soon as you book your ticket, or at the latest, 48 hours before your departure.

No snub-nosed animals are allowed in the hold:

Travel with snub-nosed animals (such as Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers, Pekingese, or Shih Tzu dogs, as well as Persian or Burmese cats) is not permitted in the hold for Air France flights.
